Methodology: Identifying your needs

Methodology: Identifying your needs

Well proven methodology:
All parts of an operator need to be clearly inter-related in a production context. To manage the company efficiently, we therefore need to have:

- Management models for all basic items in a company.
- Strategies that guide the content of the management models.
- Production results that are guided by the management models

These three groups of items constitute our “World map”, in which the work process flows horizontally through all three levels: Models are defined according to Strategies and Production and results are produced according to Models. We call this approach the ‘SMP Model’.

Further defining the SMP work process renders six generic activities A1-A6 (where A stands for Activity). The Activities are:

A1: Define Strategy & Plan.
A2: Create Result/Output Models.
A3: Create Internal Models.
A4: Plan Deployment.
A5: Deploy.
A6: Operate/Produce

The second dimension of the SMP Model is the knowledge areas that provide the content and function, for example Product Development or Network Operation & Maintenance. The areas are grouped into business areas, which are responsible for core business activities and support areas. The business areas of an operator are those that are business critical i.e., Product Development, Marketing & Sales, Customer Care, Billing and Network. The support areas are Corporate Development, IT, Human Resource, Finance, Legal and Administration functions in an operator.

The above structure basically covers everything a telecom operator needs to take full control of the work in either permanent operations or in a temporary project. Moreover, 90% of the SMP Model is generic, which is why the SMP Model can also be used in any company or organizational form.

Identifying your needs

The resulting grid is a structured map where your needs govern what contour we draw to define the deliverables of your project.

Our products can thus encompass the start-up and transformation/corporate development of telecom operators. They can also be restricted to certain activities, such as a business plan, or to an area of operations e.g., billing.

Swedtel can also assume responsibility for the operations of your company. This is often the best choice for ensuring that the work we do during the start-up or transformation of your company lasts and it ensures the smooth hand-over of responsibilities.
